Lisa Henning posted 31 kills in her first weekend as a Tiger. |
It was a great weekend here in Columbia as we looked to kick the season off with our home tournament...The Tiger Invitational. I think that all the girls were ready to see some new opponents and take the home court in front of a 1,700 person crowd.
The Tigers took the floor Friday evening with the help of a large student group routing them on. Despite Maryland's size we were able to stay in system and run a very quick offense to counteract Maryland's size and physical play on the net. On Saturday we played both Nevada and Utah Valley which were two teams very different from Maryland. They were fairly small but quick and loved to move their hitters around. We did a great job serving aggressively to take them out of rhythm and won both matches in three sets.
Molly Kreklow took home the MVP honors from the weekend and both Vann and Brittany were named first team all tournament. It is great to finally have Brittany firing on all cylinders as she is a tough match up in the middle for anyone that we will play.
This weekend we head out west to play in Pepperdine's tournament which will be a great test for us pretty early in the season. The tournament features us, Pepperdine, Rice, and Eastern Washington. Preseason projections have 3 out of the four teams as possible NCAA tournament teams.
I hope everything is going well with everyone and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at the Zou this year!
